Subject: Not Most Idahoans
Dear Editor,
As one of many who, over the past decade, has dedicated many hours of my life to call attention to the human rights, economic and environmental cost of forced wolf introduction, I was stunned to find a Letter to the Editor of The Challis Messenger, from an individual lacking in education on this matter.

Gloria Carlton, from Hailey http://www.challismessenger.com/index.php?accnum=story-29-20080327, scolded an Idaho livestock producer for his animal husbandry practices, and demanded a financial accounting for monies spent on lethal wolf control. Apparantly she assumed she was writing in opposition to lethal wolf control actions on behalf of "most Idahoans."

I found Carlton's letter, while traveling through Challis on my way to a wolf conference in Cheyenne, Wyoming featuring Lyle Laverty, Assistant U.S. Secretary of Interior, who presides over the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The public position of "most Idahoans" was passed as a resolution by a super majority of the 2001 Idaho legislature and is known as House Joint Memorial HJM5 calls for: "Wolves to be removed immediately by whatever means necessary."

If Ms. Carlton is truly concerned about her tax dollars, should know that $125 million dollars were looted from the Pittman-Robertson Sports-men's Trust to force wolves on Idaho, Montana and Wyoming against the expressed will of those state legislatures.

Hundreds of millions of dollars, and tens of thousands of those state's game animals, have been destroyed by wolves.

Livestock producers in the affected states stand a one in seven probability of being compensated for their losses. Furthermore, once thriving outfitting businesses that brought several hundred millions of dollars to each of those three state's economies, have been driven to their knees by forced wolf introduction.

As a public service, I submit to a copy of Idaho House Joint Memorial 05, (see ad, Page 16) so everyone in Hailey and elsewhere, can see what the 'majority' values in Idaho are, when it comes to forced wolf introduction.

Respectfully,

Robert T. Fanning Jr.

Pray, Montana
