Oil well surrounded by wind turbines and cotton fields in Texas

Have you driven Hwy 287 through TX?  The wind farms starting at the OK border through northern TX go on for miles.  They make the Colorado Wind Farms look like Tiny Town.

The American people financed the equivalent power producing capability of 10 nuclear powered plants for wind mills in TX (something over $1 Billion in tax payer money) – yet they only produce 10% of what the fields are capable of – why?  The wind doesn’t blow that much in TX and when it does, it’s at night, when the demand for electricity is relatively low.

I read the company in charge of managing these farms and selling the electricity gives the electricity away because they have no way to store the extra and there isn’t enough demand in the area where the wind farms are to use it.

TX  has proposed to spend millions and millions of $$ running power lines from the wind farms to the population areas, cause there aren’t a lot of folks living in Northern TX.  It’s 400 miles from the wind mills to Dallas/Ft. Worth.

Amazingly, the TX legislature is considering backing off on financing these power lines, it will cost them dearly to run these lines and frankly the savings on power isn’t there.  Well, why not? Frankly, because one cannot count on the wind mills to produce regularly; thus the coal fired and nuclear power plants currently supplying power for Texas homes and businesses must be kept running at full capacity. Yet the wind farms want their power to be used first, while the other plants sit idle, which still have to pay their bills without selling their electricity.  How efficient.

Word is the subsidies are ending for wind power. Of course, the towns around the areas where the wind farms have gone in, who have benefitted from the millions of dollars of tax money flowing into their areas, allowing them to build new school, roads…..want the subsidies to continue – which equal something like $750mill/year of tax payer money going to some 400 property owners.  I think want to move there and get some of my money back.

Wind power is the one of the biggest scams perpetrated on the American people.

I hope Mr. Romney ends subsidies to wind power as well as Big Bird!

Why do I know all this?  We drove to San Antonio the first week of September for our son’s graduation for basic training for the Air Force – and there is not a lot to see on that drive, so I researched it with my phone while my hubby drove.  Made me angry to learn about the farce of wind power being fed to the American people. Sure it’s green – but the color of money green.
