Out Of Courtesy To The Consumer
By Roni Bell Sylvester

It is absolutely imperative to update and correctly reference (name) said farm bill as: "The Consumer Farm Bill."

Why?

Because 51% of the budget in the Consumer Farm Bill is allocated to food stamps, school lunch programs and other consumer needs. To call it anything other than The Consumer Farm Bill is to perpetuate a lie.

The agricultural production arena is unique to any other business existing, in that when any obstruction of production (For what ever reason...nature...environmental litigations, government regulations.) that results in production loss,  the producer cannot raise the price of his or her goods to make up for that loss.  If the producer passed those costs on to the consumer, their products would be unreachable for mostly everyone...including the very rich.

This is where the government, out of a courtesy to the consumer (And contraire to what is falsely touted as "ag subsidy."),  places dollars where they're needed to counter weight those losses.

Why?

Because this balance is absolutely critical to insuring consumer access to essential goods stays around 8- 10% of their disposable income.

Consumer opinion has tremendous impact on Agricultural production opportunities.  Presenting the un-edited picture with impeccable honestly, lays the foundation from which all parties can work together in a cooperative, constructive, and equitably beneficial manner.

You can do your part, by pressing your elected officials, peers, and yourself, to properly reference said bill as "The Consumer Farm Bill."
