Time to put God & Country back in Education

  by James Rohn

In the hallowed halls of education this week we again had a school shooting, this time on a college campus.  Again this week we saw and heard of the horrible massacre.  We have also heard about acts of bravery and accommodation like we have heard before in times like this.  This time, unfortunately it was with more blood shed than ever before.  As people sat staring at the TV and internet, finding out about the twisted mind of a killer.   We came to learn how truly disturbed he was.  We again angered at what he’d been studying and where he’d chosen to purchase supplies for this event.

At home and places of business, some people wept for the brilliant young minds that were lost.   Silently we watched, wondering about the warning signs and how we might have been able to help him.  We again were also reminded of other recent school shootings such as Columbine.  As usual we will all be silenced for a time of mourning.   As a nation we will have to reevaluate how we could alleviate a situation like this from happening again.

We know that there are laws that will be changed, there will be attitudes that will be adjusted, and there will also be protocol that will be looked at.  Yet in my mind I have to wonder, it was the late 1960s when the first gunman was on a water tower at a college campus.  People were horrified until men in uniform took his life and watched the carnage end.  I am wondering back to then if we could have put all of this to rest.

You see it was in the 1960s in which the Supreme Court had done away with prayer in school and the Pledge of Allegiance having to been said as well.  It was a time in which Thomas Jefferson’s letter became in tune with modern society and the term, “Separation of Church and State,” was ruled to be the answer.  It was at that time teachers, faculty, and administration stood at the front door and  by god nothing of religion should be allowed to walk in the front door!  We stood guard at that door, but no one even thought to administer the back door.  By the time anyone had walked around to check it, it was too late.  The devil had made his nasty appearance.  It was now going to be war.  It would become a battle zone.

In modern America we were right.  God was old, impotent, and aged.  We needed to be able to defend ourselves.  Now today, we are paying for it.  God had left peaceably he knew our request, and as the Bible states, he will leave us unto our iniquity.  The answer for last week was not the need for new laws but the need for a country to wake up!  We need a country in which children of any age can go to school and study without the fear of becoming a national martyr.  We don’t need gun restrictions, we need parents who take the time to play with their children.  We don’t need video games showing how to kill a human; desensitizing children to the value of human life! We need outdoor activities and the like to cultivate their young minds.

The battle has been set into array, it is our chance to change history!  It is our chance to show that we still love each other.  Let’s mourn this, let’s weep, and let’s by God get up and declare America is back!
