Protest of Satanic "mass" planned at Harvard |
President Faust May 11, 2014 I earlier wrote to the Dean, of the school of continuing studies, and did not hear back. So I am writing to directly to you, Madam President. I read about the planned "Satanic mass" at Harvard. Have you completely lost your moral moorings there? Harvard's motto is "Veritas," correct? That means truth. God is truth and his adversary, Satan, is known as the king of lies, as you would know if you have read Dante or Milton (and, let's not forget, that Western literary classic, The Bible), as, one would reasonably hope for a college educated adult. So it would seem you are acting contrary to your stated values there with this school-endorsed Satanic mass. The reason I state this is that I read that the devil youth there were going use a pre-consecrated host from a Catholic church -- e.g. what the church proclaims to be the body of Christ -- and defile it as part of their ceremony. Is that correct? If it is, it is an act of sacrilege, and also admissible evidence of an earlier act of theft. No priest or bishop would provide Satan's minions with a blessed host for a black mass. An investigation by the university of the act of theft would be appropriate, and just. Which church or ministry was the host stolen from and by whom? How and when? We already know why. The Catholic Archdiocese of Boston, and other Catholic groups, are protesting the university's wicked act in endorsing this event. http://www.tfpstudentaction.org/tell-harvard-university-stop-black-mass.html I am an Eastern Orthodox priest, and I join with my Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ in asking you to not let the evil event go forward. On another note, reasoning by analogy, if this Satanic event were, instead, labeled an educational seminar on Islam, and the Koran was to be defiled, I know for a fact that Harvard would not only not allow it, but would condemn it in the strongest terms as would CNN, New York Times, and other liberal media outlets as an "outrage." I see this defilement on campus at Harvard as akin to the Taliban destroying Buddhist sculpture a few years back -- a cultural and spiritual outrage. Barbarism posing as scholarship. I hear that the Roman Catholic and Orthodox students at MIT are planning to have a real mass at the time of the Satanic mass. That's good, but one wonders why the event is not happening on the Harvard campus. Would traditionalists be accused of hate speech against Satan worshippers if they dared do worship the Father, Son and Holy Spirit at Harvard? Please do write back to me. I would like to engage you in a dialogue on this issue and see if you can extend the same courtesies to Christians that you would do for Muslims or other religious groups -- i.e. not defile their most sacred things in public with the imprimatur of the university. Lest you think I am a rube-like philistine, I can assure you that I am a graduate of the University of Chicago, where I studied with top theologians. Glad I did not decide to go to Harvard Div at this point. P.S. On a secular note, this Satanic "mass" reminds me, on some level, of the raunchy Harvard Lampoon material from the 1960s when Doug Kinney was editing the satire magazine. Except this is deadly serious -- and isn't funny in the least, and does not advance the cause of Free Speech or Freedom of Religion. Sincerely, Fr.
