"Constant Threat" >From Foreign Animal Disease
Article below from BEEF Cow Calf Weekly, 12-21-2007:
The U.S. is under constant threat of a foreign animal disease sneaking across the border, either intentionally or by accident, and the U.S. must be ever vigilant, says Steve Van Wie, a consulting veterinarian with the Department of Homeland Security.
There seems to be a united effort to "terrorize" us by certain people who seem to have the ability to impose their attitudes, capitalizing on this, by their statements at such gatherings as the latest Billings FMD Summit meeting. Dr. Wie is one who is doing this. He personally killed thousands of un-infected animals in the UK in 2001. Now, he is running around, telling everybody that we are under the threat of another FMD outbreak. Ted Schroeder is also on this bandwagon, an Ag Economist from Kansas State University. He's using his association with our USDA and APHIS officials to promote the NAIS programs. If we allow people like Dr. Wie to dispose of that integrity......it's our own fault. Gary Burkholder
