"Constant Threat" >From Foreign Animal Disease

Article below from BEEF Cow Calf Weekly, 12-21-2007:

The U.S. is under constant threat of a foreign animal disease sneaking across the border, either intentionally or by accident, and the U.S. must be ever vigilant, says Steve Van Wie, a consulting veterinarian with the Department of Homeland Security.
Van Wie says evidence that the disease is on al Qaida's list of terrorist weapons was found in Afghanistan "written in perfect English," according to the Billings Gazette. There is also the threat of domestic terrorism from animal rights groups which have openly raised the possibility of attacking U.S. food animals.

What do you think "the disease" is of which this fellow writes???  I guess you don't have to be too specific if all you're doing is fear-mongering!  The fact that it was "written in perfect English" is especially frightening, no? These guys weren't just party boys in their English classes!  Reed Kelly

Dear Mike (Callicrate)

There seems to be a united effort to "terrorize" us by certain people who seem to have the ability to impose their attitudes, capitalizing on this, by their statements at such gatherings as the latest Billings FMD Summit meeting.   Dr. Wie is one who is doing this.   He personally killed thousands of un-infected animals in the UK in 2001.   Now, he is running around, telling everybody that we are under the threat of another FMD outbreak.  Ted Schroeder is also on this bandwagon, an Ag Economist from Kansas State University.

He's using his association with our USDA and APHIS officials to promote the NAIS programs.
When we all see through this cloud of proposed Animal Disease threats to our businesses, the reality will be that we lose our integrity as individual livestock producers.   People, like Dr. Wie and Ted Schroeder, don't give a care about us.   They want publicity.

If we allow people like Dr. Wie to dispose of that integrity......it's our own fault.
