USCA (November 29, 2007) - Jess Peterson, a fifth generation cattle producers and Director of Government Relations for the U.S. Cattlemen's Association (USCA), will appear at the North Star Classic in Valley City, North Dakota November 30 and December 1 to provide an update on the issues affecting the U.S. cattle industry. The North Star Classic is the largest livestock show held in North Dakota.

"I look forward to meeting cattlemen from North Dakota and surrounding states," noted Peterson. "USCA has been very involved in the Farm Bill, animal identification, beef checkoff reform and trade issues. We'll provide an update on these activities on Saturday afternoon and I look forward to hearing what issues cattle producers would like to see the newly formed USCA address." Peterson is scheduled to speak at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 1.

Pat Becker, President of the Independent Beef Association of North Dakota (I-BAND) will also be in attendance. "This is a great opportunity to inform producers about the nationwide campaign for beef checkoff reform, 'Campaign For U.S. Beef'," stated Becker. "Cattle producers across the country support the beef checkoff, but many believe that a portion of funds should be allowed to promote domestic beef. By signing on to the U.S. Beef Checkoff initiative cattlemen will join the effort to influence Congress and USDA to make this happen."

Peterson and Becker will be gathering signatures for the checkoff initiative on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1.
