Announcement: "Stop a Desert Storm Rally"
MEDIA RELEASE Water Users Defense Committee Monday, April 30, 2007 - Denver Contact: Arnie Good 970-867-5113
Governor Ritter has said that there is nothing he can do about water for agriculture...for the 2007 season. The Legislature has refused to allow a late bill to come to the floor. Many knowledgeable people voluntarily brought Governor Ritter; Commissioner of Ag John Stulp; Director of Natural Resources, Harris Sherman; leadership of both the House and Senate Ag and Natural Resources committees; engineering and legal justification for pumping needed water on Colorado's fields. Could you deny a tiny sprout of wheat, or corn or sunflower... a drink of water? Could you knowingly let a field of dreams whither into a slow and excruciating death on a cracked bed of dust? How do you see Colorado? With Green Pastures...or Desert Storms? We, as the Water Users Defense Committee, can not accept any failure to act.
Over the past ten days we have put together an impressive list of Ag Organizations that have endorsed our efforts and have joined us in our appeal to the Governor and the Legislature. Most have agreed to notify their members and encourage them to attend the rally. Coalition members to date: Colorado Nursery & Greenhouse Association, Rocky Mountain Sod Growers, Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado, Garden Centers of Colorado, Colorado Association of Lawn Care Professionals, International Society Of Arboriculture-Rocky Mountain Chapter, Colorado Chapter of American Society of Landscape Architects, Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, Colorado Sugar beet Growers, Colorado Corn Growers, Colorado Onion Growers Association, Orphan Wells of Wiggins, Good Neighbor Law, Colorado Farmers' Markets Association, Don Jones - former President Morgan county Economic Development Corp., many individual dairies and cattle feeding operations.
