People power!
The problem is that the bad public policies have been wrapped up along with the good public policies into a ball of rubber bands. It's now very difficult to untangle them all without getting hurt. What is most needed now is 'people power', and lots of it! After all, isn't that what our individual-based constitutional republican form of governance is all about? On November 19, 1863, former President Abraham Lincoln, a true American hero, delivered what is arguably his most famous speech to the American people - the Gettysburg Address - from which we all can still learn. "It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." Also, it would behoove us all to look further back into our colonial history to relearn the wise words of Benjamin Franklin, another true American patriot.
