- MILLOY AND SOON: Banning junk science from Capitol Hill
Washington Times - Congress needs to hear the whole truth from researchers By Steve Milloy and Willie Soon - Monday, April 30, 2012 - Federal courts have a system to keep junk science out of courtrooms. It's time Congress adopts one, too. The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee held a hearing April 17 on the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) recent Mercury Air Toxics Standard (MATS), which is intended to reduce mercury emissions from coal-fired electric power plants at a cost of about $10 billion per year. U.S. Power Plant Carbon Standards and Clean Air and Health Co-benefits
Emissions Modeling - For each scenario, we used emissions output from ICF International’s Integrated Planning Model (IPM) conducted by ICF International. IPM is a dynamic power sector production cost linear optimization model for North America. It incorporates many drivers of generation and power sector demands, including wholesale power, system reliability needs, environmental limitations, fuel selection, power transmission, capacity, and operational elements of generators on the power grid, to estimate generation and resulting emissions. By running IPM the least-cost means of meeting electric generation energy and capacity requirements are determined, while complying with the requirements specified in each of the policy scenarios. US power plant carbon standards and clean air and health co-benefits

Carbon dioxide emissions standards for US power plants will influence the fuels and technologies used to generate electricity, alter emissions of pollutants such as sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, and influence ambient air quality and public health. We present an analysis of how three alternative scenarios for US power plant carbon standards could change fine particulate matter and ozone concentrations in ambient air, and the resulting public health co-benefits. The results underscore that carbon standards to curb global climate change can also provide immediate local and regional health co-benefits, but the magnitude depends on the design of the standards. A stringent but flexible policy that counts demand-side energy efficiency towards compliance yields the greatest health benefits of the three scenarios analysed. Click here to continue.

When It Comes To Climate Policies, 'Trust But Verify'
GUEST POST WRITTEN BY Lawrence Kogan
Mr. Kogan, managing principal of Kogan Law Group, is chief executive of the Institute for Trade, Standards and Sustainable Development.
Secretary of State George P. Schultz claimed as well as intimated that if former President Reagan were here today he would take out an “insurance policy” against climate change notwithstanding a lack of available scientific evidence justifying such a conclusion. Such action would consist of several elements, including the provision of federally funded energy research and development incentives, the imposition of a carbon tax, and the consummation of an international climate agreement. Missing the mark on climate change skepticism
It’s not about the money, it’s about the science
Cherry-picking statistics illustration by Greg Groesch/The Washington Times
By J. Scott Armstrong - During the past few weeks, a series of articles in the press have implied that Willie Soon, a well-known global-warming skeptic, had violated ethical standards by failing to disclose information about research funding. Click here to continue.

Willie's response....
In recent weeks I have been the target of attacks in the press by various radical environmental and politically motivated groups. This effort should be seen for what it is: a shameless attempt to silence my scientific research and writings, and to make an example out of me as a warning to any other researcher who may dare question in the slightest their fervently held orthodoxy of anthropogenic global warming. The Political Assault on Climate Skeptics
Members of Congress send inquisitorial letters to universities, energy companies, even think tanks By RICHARD S. LINDZEN on March 4, 2015 6:50 p.m. ET - The Wall Street Journal
Research in recent years has encouraged those of us who question the popular alarm over allegedly man-made global warming. Actually, the move from “global warming” to “climate change” indicated the silliness of this issue. Click here to continue.

Statement Regarding Allegations Concerning Dr. Willie Soon By Robert M. Carter, Ph.D. - The Heartland Institute
Dr. Wei-Hock “Willie” Soon has been a research physicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) for 25 years. Dr. Soon’s research specialty is the influence of changes in solar activity on the Earth’s climate and the study of solar-type stars. Since 1994, together with co-authors, he has written more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and two scholarly books on these and related topics. In 2003 the Smithsonian presented Dr. Soon with an institutional award in “official recognition of work performance reflecting a high standard of accomplishment”. Click here to continue.

Climatist Jihad?
Climate Crisis extremists attack experts who challenge claims of imminent climate Armageddon
Paul Driessen |
ISIL and other Islamist jihad movements continue to round up and silence all who oppose them or refuse to convert to their extreme religious tenets. They are inspiring thousands to join them. Their intolerance, vicious tactics and growing power seem to have inspired others, as well.
After years of claiming the science is settled and unprecedented manmade catastrophes are occurring right now, Climate Crisis, Inc. is increasingly desperate. Polls put climate change at the bottom of every list of public concerns. China and India refuse to cut energy production or emissions. Real-world weather and climate totally contradict their dire models and forecasts. Expensive, subsidized, environmentally harmful renewable energy makes little sense in world freshly awash in cheap, accessible oil, gas and coal.

Democratic Congressman Draws Backlash Over Climate Funding Probe
Rep. Raul Grijalva wants to know if climate skeptics at several universities got industry funding. But is he engaged in a witch hunt?
BY BEN GEMAN |
Published February 25, 2015 - A House Democrat looking for ties between climate skeptics at several universities and fossil fuel interests is facing allegations that his probe goes too far. And they're not just coming from his political opponents.
Following revelations that a prominent climate skeptic failed to disclose funding from Exxon, Southern Company, and other fossil fuel industry sources, Rep. Raul Grijalva, the top Democrat on the Natural Resources Committee, sent letters to seven schools demanding information about—and "communication regarding"—specific professors' funding sources and their preparation of testimony before Congress and other bodies. “On Point” NYT Targeting of Distinguished
Climate Alarm Skeptic Misfires
Newsmax, February 26, 2015 - Professor Larry Bell of the U of Houston
Hell hath no fury like a global warming crisis theology scorned by informed skeptics. Take the recent New York Times attack on my very good and highly distinguished friend Dr. Willie Soon of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics for example.
Titled “Deeper Ties to Corporate Cash for Doubtful Climate Researcher”, the hit piece by Justin Gillis and John Schwartz stated that Dr. Soon “…has accepted more than $1.2 million in money from the fossil fuel industry over the last decade while failing to disclose that conflict of interest in most of his scientific papers.” This was purportedly supported by Freedom of Information Act materials obtained by Greenpeace through its Climate Investigations Center. Save Willie: The global warming movement is anti-science, oblivious to how little we know about climate
Republish Reprint | Christopher Essex, Special to Financial Post | More from Special to Financial Post
“Small minds do not understand the importance of unorthodox thinking to science”
Beheading, war crimes, prison, death threats. Perhaps you think I’m talking about IS. No, it’s just the routine hyperbolic language of media climate activism, and the minds of our cultural overlords. Next December policymakers will try again to save the world from what they don’t understand by proposing policy on something else, which won’t work anyway. Click here to continue.

In recent weeks, Dr. Willie Soon, a distinguished solar astrophysicist, coauthored with Christopher Monckton, Matt Briggs, and David Legates an important work of original scholarship in the Science Bulletin (previously titled Chinese Science Bulletin), a publication of the Chinese Academy of Sciences
The article reveals what appears to be an error in the computer models used to predict global warming that leads models to over-estimate future warming by a factor of three. The article has been downloaded more than 10,000 times, a huge number for a peer-reviewed journal article.
You might expect environmentalists, policymakers, and reporters to celebrate this new finding, since it means a potential threat to the environment and human health has been found to be less likely than previously thought.. Click here to continue.

Ultra-rich Green groups attack climate scientists who question “manmade climate chaos” claims
This article responds to scurrilous attacks on my colleague Willie Soon, a superb scientist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
In addition to his regular work on solar and atmospheric topics, Dr. Soon devotes a substantial amount of his own personal time to investigating climate change, and particularly the influence of solar variability on Earth’s climate. For that his integrity has been under repeated assault by global warming alarmists – in government, Big Green organizations and academia – who worry that his work threatens their “dangerous manmade climate change” thesis … and funding. My article defends Dr. Soon and his courageous colleagues, and highlights the real moneyed interests that I believe should be made more transparent and held more accountable.
