This Saturday I was honored to deliver the Weekly Republican Address as Republicans continue to stress the need for an‘all-of-the-above’ energy strategy and hold President Obama accountable for policies that continue to contribute to higher gas prices. Energy development at home is essential to powering our nation’s economy and achieving energy security. In Colorado, gas prices have gone up 40 cents a gallon in just one month. On average, gas prices have more than doubled since the President took office. The most forceful thing the President has done about high gas prices is try to explain that he’s against them. Americans are right to expect more from their leaders.
In January, the President told leaders in Congress he would be willing to work with Republicans on an‘all-of-the-above’ energy strategy, but the Obama administration has consistently slowed or shut down domestic energy production. There is actually less acreage offshore open for energy production now than there was when the President took office. Production on federal lands has declined from 2010 to 2011 by 14 percent. While the President imposed a national energy tax intended to make rates “skyrocket,” the House continues to pass ‘all-of-the above’ energy initiatives. There are at least seven bipartisan House-passed energy bills sitting in the Senate, waiting on a vote. One of those bills is the Jobs and Energy Permitting Act, which I introduced last year and would produce 1 million barrels of oil per day and create tens of thousands of jobs annually.
